EXPOSED: Perfectionism Lies

EXPOSED: Perfectionism Lies

Postmark 26-004

From: Somewhere between Google Analytics and a browser mutiny.

Population: One determined email list builder, 29 new subscribers, and several hundred missing bookmarks.

Today’s Forecast: Tech clouds with 100% chance of a malware monsoon.

Minor Victories and Other Misadventures

This week I:

• Finished my fifteen-email welcome sequence.

• Set up Google Analytics, which immediately rewarded me with homework.

• Cleaned my email list and warmed up my domain. Apparently Gmail and I are speaking again.

• Attended Igor Kheifet’s coaching sessions without technology filing a restraining order.

• Welcomed 29 new subscribers to The Edge from a solo ad.

• Lost every Opera bookmark I owned after malware staged a hostile takeover.

To whoever writes malware . . . karma knows who you are . . . no where can you hide.

What Punched Me in the Face

I spent far too much time polishing things nobody could see…instead of publishing things people actually could.

The internet can’t applaud what you never publish.

Google Analytics congratulated me by giving me homework.

Gmail wanted reassurance. Apparently building a business involves a surprising amount of marriage counseling with software.

Then something interesting happened. My solo ad went live.

Twenty-nine new subscribers eagerly wandered onto The Edge.

Funny how invisible work stops looking invisible the moment it starts paying you back.

Wish You Were Here

Some weeks you don’t build your audience.

You build the business that’s ready when your audience finally arrives.

What’s Waiting at The Edge

This week I’m working on:

• Publishing more consistently.

• Paying less attention to subscriber counts and more attention to earning trust and engagement.

Because getting people to visit is only half the job. Giving them a reason to stay is the other half.

Perfectionism builds beautiful drafts.

Publishing builds businesses.

Until the next Postcard,

Brenda

Ready for What’s Next?

Building an online business is messier and a whole lot funnier—than the gurus dare let on. When there’s something worth sharing, you’ll get a Postcard from The Edge.

Expect real experiments.

Painful mistakes.

Occasional technical disasters.

Frequent face plants. Mostly  mine.

The Edge isn’t a place. It’s where comfort taps out.

Where certainty nose dives off a cliff. And technology develops a personal grudge against you.

Businesses aren’t built at The Edge. You are.
